Parish Clerk
North Tuddenham Parish Council is seeking a highly organised and motivated individual to take on the role of Parish Clerk – currently the Responsible Finance Officer (RFO) is undertaken by a Councillor but the post may need to encompass these duties at some point in the future.
This is a varied and rewarding position at the heart of the local community, supporting the Council in its work for residents.
Key details:
- Hours: Approximately 3 hours per week – with agreed additional hours upon demand
- Working pattern: Home-based
- Meetings: Attendance at 6 evening Parish Council meetings per year, usually on the third Thursday of the month, plus any extraordinary meetings.
- Start date: As soon as possible but start date will encompass handover from current post-holder
Salary:
Salary will be paid in accordance with the NALC (National Association of Local Councils) pay scales, dependent on experience and qualifications.
About the role:
The Clerk is the Proper Officer of the Council and is responsible for ensuring that the Council’s business is conducted in accordance with legislation and best practice.
Key responsibilities include:
- Preparing agendas, minutes, and meeting papers
- Updating the website and social media pages
- Providing professional advice and administrative support to councillors
- Managing correspondence and maintaining records
- Overseeing the legal expectations around Council finances, and supporting the RFO with the Annual Internal Audit
- Ensuring compliance with statutory duties and governance procedures
About you:
- Well organised with strong administrative skills
- Confident communicator with good written English
- Basic financial management skills
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
Previous experience in local government is preferred but not essential for the right candidate.
