Clerk - 5 hours per week

Parish Clerk

Wimbotsham Parish Council is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and organised Parish Clerk to support the Council and help deliver high-quality local services. This is a flexible, home-based role that would suit someone with excellent administrative skills, whether you are an experienced Parish Clerk or looking to develop a career in local government. Full training and ongoing professional development will be supported.

Key details:

  • Hours: 5 hours per week, with agreed additional hours as required
  • Location: Home-based
  • Meetings: Attendance at Parish Council meetings and any extraordinary meetings as required
  • Start date: As soon as possible, subject to an agreed handover where appropriate
  • Salary: Negotiable depending on experience. Ongoing training and CPD will be offered as required.

Salary will be paid in accordance with the NALC (National Association of Local Councils) pay scales.

About the role:

The Clerk is the Proper Officer of the Council and is responsible for ensuring that the Council’s business is conducted in accordance with legislation and best practice.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Preparing agendas, minutes and meeting papers
  • Updating the website and social media pages
  • Providing professional advice and administrative support to councillors
  • Managing correspondence and maintaining records
  • Overseeing the legal expectations around Council finances and supporting the Responsible Financial Officer where required
  • Ensuring compliance with statutory duties and governance procedures

About you:

Essential

  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Good written and verbal communication
  • IT confident (Word, Excel and email)
  • Able to work independently
  • Good attention to detail

Desirable

  • Experience in local government
  • Knowledge of parish council legislation
  • Financial administration experience
