We know many clerks work in isolation and sometimes feel they need to talk to other clerks to share ideas. Join in with our popular clerks' networking sessions, we think you'll find it a good use of your time.

Julie, Sara, Laura, Richard and Di are experienced Norfolk Parish Clerks and have provided training, locum and audit support to many councils.

Norfolk PTS provides a simple, low-cost support service for parish and town councils in Norfolk. The annual subscription-based service is intended to complement our training provision while meeting the support needs of councils.

As a Town or Parish Councillor, it's important to keep up-to-date with the latest legislation and meeting procedures. You can do this by attending our well-regarded courses and seminars and, if you are a chairperson, our chairs' networking sessions too.

Julie has been involved in the sector since 2005 and is passionate about helping councils and councillors make a difference in their local area.

The majority of the support that we are asked to provide is to clerks and we understand that being a clerk often involves working alone, with no team or colleagues for support. Occasionally you need to check how best to tackle a challenge, get advice from others who’ve encountered an unusual situation, or just discuss…

Sara's background is in IT, Personnel and Training. She's been clerking and training in the sector since 2011.

Our sector is constantly changing, whether it's adapting to new legislation or finding new ways of working because of technological advances. It's important to keep ourselves updated - you can do this by attending our well-regarded courses, seminars and clerks' networking sessions.

We are a team of experienced tutors who are also practising clerks. One of our tutors can deliver a tailored course at a venue local to you or online. Sessions usually last 2-2.5 hours starting at a time to suit your attendees.

Laura has been a clerk since 2015 and prior to that worked in the voluntary sector as well as for one of Norfolk's District Councils.

Our legal associate is Wellers Hedleys Solicitors, who have served Parish and Town Councils for more than 40 years.

Di has helped so many clerks in Norfolk and beyond. She's been training in the sector since 2005 and at one point was the Training Officer for SLCC.

Councils occasionally require a locum clerk to cover for sickness, maternity absences or to bridge the gap between a clerk leaving and another starting. You might also need a locum clerk if you have additional work or projects to undertake.

Richard has almost 40 years experience clerking councils in Norfolk as well as holding key roles within SLCC and Norfolk Parish Training Partnership.

Your Council’s internal auditor: This is a role which is significantly more vital for ‘Exempt’ Councils (those with a turnover under £25,000). It is a function which should be regularly reviewed. There is no requirement for the Independent Internal Auditor to be a professionally qualified accountant however an understanding of book keeping and accounting processes…
